Planning permission secured for new school and residential facilities in Bury St Edmunds
CTPL supported the Eastern Education Group Trust - acting on behalf of Suffolk County Council - in obtaining planning permission under Regulation 3 of the Town & Country Planning General Regulations 1992 (as amended) on 1st May 2025 for the alteration of existing vacant school buildings to provide new education facilities including an ancillary residential block with ensuite bedrooms for students and staff at Horringer Court, Glastonbury Road, Bury St Edmunds. The new facilities will be for boys aged between 8 and 14 who have been permanently excluded or at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools. Most of these boys have experienced difficulty, disturbance or trauma in their childhood. The School, to be named Chalk Hill, however aims to provide a caring, supportive and challenging learning environment in which the boys can overcome their barriers to learning, reintegrate successfully into mainstream schools or another education provider, and then on into the community.
